THE BOWEN PIPELINE PROJECT

Proven HDPE infrastructure

Supporting modern long-life water infrastructure across Australia and internationally

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline systems are widely used throughout major water, mining, industrial and infrastructure projects due to their durability, flexibility, corrosion resistance and long operational life.

Large-diameter HDPE pipelines are now a well-established infrastructure solution and continue to be used across demanding operating environments throughout Australia and internationally.

Why large-diameter HDPE pipeline infrastructure?

Large-diameter HDPE pipeline systems are now widely used throughout Australia and internationally across major water, mining, industrial and infrastructure projects due to their durability, flexibility, corrosion resistance and long-term operational performance.

Pipeline diameters exceeding 1000mm are increasingly common within modern infrastructure applications, including:

  • long-distance water transfer
  • regional water supply
  • irrigation infrastructure
  • mining operations
  • industrial pipelines
  • marine infrastructure
  • gas pipelines
  • desalination projects
  • and other large-scale buried pipeline systems operating across demanding environmental conditions

Large-diameter HDPE continues to be selected because of its weld integrity, hydraulic performance, construction efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements, particularly across long-distance infrastructure corridors.

  • Modern HDPE manufacturing technologies also support the production of long pipe lengths, helping reduce welded joints, improve installation efficiency and minimise transport and construction impacts across major projects.

Supporting efficient infrastructure delivery

Modern HDPE manufacturing and installation approaches can support:

  • reduced transport movements
  • fewer welded joints
  • reduced installation time
  • and lower construction impacts compared with some traditional pipeline materials.

Long-length HDPE manufacturing also allows larger sections of pipe to be installed efficiently across major infrastructure corridors.

Supported by industry standards & best practice

HDPE pipeline infrastructure used in Australia is manufactured and installed in accordance with recognised Australian Standards and industry best-practice guidelines.

The Bowen Pipeline Project also engages with industry bodies including the Plastics Industry Pipe Association of Australia (PIPA), supporting alignment with contemporary infrastructure practices, technical standards and long-term pipeline performance outcomes.

Modern infrastructure supporting future regional growth

HDPE pipeline infrastructure is a proven, widely adopted and long-established solution supporting major infrastructure projects throughout Australia and internationally.

The Bowen Pipeline Project proposes the use of modern long-life HDPE infrastructure designed to support reliable water delivery, efficient construction and long-term regional growth across North Queensland.
